I've read a few good books lately, and been really lazy about updating the reading list here. So without further ado:

Cutting for Stone, by Abraham Verghese.
Island Beneath the Sea: A Novel, by Isabel Allende.
Light Falling on Bamboo, by Lawrence Scott.
  

I heartily recommend all three.

Life AFter Life by Kate Atkinson was remarkable. So was Jhumpa Lahiri's new book THe Lowlands.

Just finished the 5 books of The Game of Thrones series (two more to come) and liked them more than I thought I would. Very absorbing! An unique and brilliant novel by Rosamund Lupton entitled Afterwards gets two thumbs up from me. It's one of those gorgeous writing books.
